Diablo 4 Season 10 Players Should Avoid One Build Like the Plague
Most Diablo 4 classes are in a solid position heading into Season 10, with at least one build that will be S-Tier in the meta. This balance is likely achieved due to the introduction of Chaos Armor giving each class access to build opportunities that weren’t possible in past Diablo 4 seasons. Even with a wide open Chaos Armor pool available to it, one Necromancer build is far too underpowered to be viable against the majority of Diablo 4‘s toughest endgame content.
Diablo 4‘s Necromancer is in a strange place heading into Season 10, with builds on both ends of the meta. While the Necromancer was one of the best classes for Diablo 4 Season 9, players will have to be more selective with their Necromancer setups in Season 10. S-Tier builds like Blood Wave and Shadowblight Necromancer are ideal for the Season of Infernal Chaos once again, but Blood Lance Necromancer remains one of the worst builds in Diablo 4.
Blood Lance Necromancer Can't Compete in the Diablo 4 Season 10 Meta
The Blood Lance Necromancer build features a handful of the class’s staple skills, but puts Blood Lance front and center. These skills include:
- Blood Lance
- Corpse Tendrils
- Corpse Explosion
- Reap
- Bone Prison
- Bone Storm
Like some of the best Necromancer builds in Diablo 4, this build thrives on grouping and Crowd Controlling enemies with Corpse Tendrils and Bone Prison, then dealing damage to them with Blood Lance and Bone Storm. Corpse Explosion mostly exists to trigger passives like Fueled By Death, Grim Harvest, and Flesh-Eater to recharge the Necromancer’s Essence and give the class a damage buff.
The Blood Lance Necromancer also requires a few Uniques to get the most out of the skill. Players will want to use the Mutilator Plate to give Blood Lance the chance to deal double damage while also Fortify the player, as well as Chaos Armor like Lidless Wall to buff Bone Storm. The Legendary Aspect of Gore Quills is also essential on this build, as it allows the Necromancer to consume Blood Orbs to create more Blood Lances with increased power.
Why Blood Lance Necromancer Falls Short in the Season of Infernal Chaos
Despite all the Uniques and Legendary Aspects Diablo 4 players can use to squeeze the most out of Blood Lance, the skill ultimately doesn’t have the power to fill a niche that other skills can’t fill better. The main gimmick of Blood Lance is its ability to stick into enemies hit by the initial Lance and deal damage over time for 3 seconds. While this effect can spread to other enemies nearby, it’s primarily designed for targeting one enemy at a time, which limits the skill’s utility compared to others like Blight or Sever.
How a Future Diablo 4 Season Can Buff Blood Lance Necromancer
While the Blood Lance Necromancer had its best chance yet to shine in Season 10 with the addition of Chaos Armor, the build still doesn’t live up to the highs that other Necromancer builds can reach. In order to fix this issue, Blood Lance could use a new Unique that flips the script on how the skill is used. Currently, the Mutilator Plate is the Necromancer’s only Unique dedicated to Blood Lance, so there is room for more to be added in the future.
In particular, Blood Lance could use a Unique that increases its utility when dealing with groups of enemies. A Unique that deals additional splash damage to nearby enemies when a Blood Lance hits, or that fires multiple Blood Lances in different directions could give the skill the buff it needs to be viable in the Diablo 4 meta. Unfortunately, as it stands, there are far better Necromancer builds in Diablo 4 Season 10 to even consider building a Blood Lance Necromancer this season.
Blood Lance could also benefit from a straight damage buff, but even that may not be enough to give the utility necessary to reach the top of the meta.
